Delaware–based oil painter Zack Johnson grew up in a home where creativity was always encouraged. From his first experiments with vibrant tubes of paint as a child, he felt drawn to the buttery richness of oils and the way each brushstroke could carry emotion. After high school, Zack earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Oil Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he refined his technique under some of the country’s leading instructors. His work blends intimate still lifes, evocative coastal scenes, and dynamic urban abstracts—subjects he encounters on his frequent travels along the Eastern Seaboard. Painting largely en plein air, Zack seeks to capture the shifting light and textures of his surroundings, whether it’s the soft glow of sunrise over the Delaware Bay or the bustling energy of a city street.
